At Noom, we don’t subscribe to any one eating style. Instead, we’re focused on supporting you in finding an eating style that works for you that’s enjoyable and sustainable.

Some Noomers are interested in eating paleo or paleo-like (incorporating more whole foods into their diets!). We’ve put together a list of our favorite portable, make-ahead, and store-bought paleo snacks if the paleo diet is something that you’re interested in trying out too!

But first, a few frequently asked questions:

What is the paleo diet?

The popular Paleolithic diet (or “paleo” for short) is focused on eating healthy, whole foods and limiting processed foods and grains. It’s based on the premise of eating what our human ancestors ate during the Paleolithic era millions of years ago.  The paleo diet is also known as the caveman, hunter-gather, or Stone Age diet.

What foods are allowed or not allowed on the paleo diet?

The paleo diet encourages you to choose low-glycemic fruits and vegetables, lean meats, fish, shellfish, eggs, nuts, seeds, coconut oil, and olive oil.  This diet moves you away from refined sugars, whole grains, cereals, dairy, legumes (peanuts, beans, lentils), alcohol, coffee, artificial sweeteners, and processed food.  Because of this, the paleo diet is typically moderate in fat and carbohydrates, higher in protein and fiber, and lower in sodium and sugar.

What are the benefits of a paleo diet?

Short-term clinical studies have shown the paleo diet can result in accelerated weight loss, decreased blood pressure, and improved glucose tolerance.  For other benefits connected to the paleo diet check out: Weighing-in-on-the-paleo-diet-pros-and-cons

How do I find paleo snacks at the grocery store?

It will take time to familiarize and locate paleo snacks in the store. Fruits, vegetables, lean meats, healthy oils, and nuts and seeds are more obvious options. When searching for a pre-packaged paleo snacks, look for the words “paleo,” “grain-free,” or “primal.” You can also identify paleo-compliant products by the “P” in a circle somewhere on the packaging. Beware that a product may say the word “paleo” yet the ingredients might not mirror that to be true — be sure to check the ingredients if you’re looking for something stickly paleo.
